SIM Cards in Georgia: Which to Buy at Tbilisi Airport (2026)

Quick Answer

Buy a Magti SIM at Tbilisi Shota Rustaveli International Airport (UGTB) — available at the arrivals hall kiosk, no paperwork beyond showing your passport, active within minutes. For eSIM before you land, use Airalo. Monthly data plans are extraordinarily cheap by global standards — 50GB for ₾15–20 ($5.50–7.40/month).

The Three Networks

Magti — best overall for Tbilisi and main cities. Strong 4G/LTE coverage, fast speeds, best English-language support. Recommended.

Geocell (now Silknet Mobile) — comparable to Magti in Tbilisi, slightly weaker in rural areas. Good value plans.

Beeline Georgia — third operator, lower coverage density. Not recommended as primary SIM for nomads.

Getting a SIM at Tbilisi Airport

The airport SIM process is among the easiest in Asia — no forms, no photos, no waiting. Walk to the mobile operator kiosk in the arrivals hall (Magti and Geocell both have counters), show your passport, choose a plan, pay cash (GEL) or card, and walk out with an active SIM. The whole process takes 5–10 minutes.

If the airport kiosk is unmanned (rare, usually late night arrivals), Tbilisi's Rustaveli Avenue and Chavchavadze Avenue have multiple operator stores open from 10 AM.

Best Plans for Remote Workers

Magti

PlanDataCallsPrice
Basic20GBUnlimited Georgia₾12/month (~$4.40)
Standard50GBUnlimited + roaming₾18/month (~$6.70)
Max100GBUnlimited + Europe roaming₾28/month (~$10.40)

The 50GB plan is the right choice for most remote workers — more than enough data, EU roaming included for day trips to Armenia or Turkey.

Geocell/Silknet

Comparable pricing, slightly different data caps. ₾15–25/month for working data volumes.

eSIM Options

Airalo Georgia eSIMs: 1GB/7 days ~$4.50, 3GB/30 days ~$9, 10GB/30 days ~$16. Useful if you want data before landing or prefer not to deal with a physical SIM. Data-only — no Georgian number.

Home Internet

Georgia has some of Europe's fastest broadband. Silknet and Magticom deliver 100–500 Mbps fibre for ₾15–40/month ($5.50–15). Most furnished apartments include internet — confirm speeds before committing. Coworking spaces consistently deliver 100–200+ Mbps.

VPN Considerations

Georgia has no significant internet restrictions. A NordVPN subscription is still useful for public WiFi security at cafes and airports, but unlike China or Vietnam, you do not need it to access content.

Bottom Line

Magti at the airport, 50GB plan, minutes to set up. Airalo if you want pre-arrival eSIM. Home broadband in your apartment is fast and cheap — ask your landlord before getting a separate connection.
