Delhi for Remote Workers: Navigating India's Capital as a Nomad (2026)

Quick Answer

Delhi works well as a remote work base from October through March β€” good coworking, excellent food, rich culture, and lower prices than Mumbai. It does not work well April through September: the heat is extreme (up to 47Β°C in May), air quality deteriorates significantly in winter (November–January), and the city is overwhelming without a clear plan. Come prepared and pick the right time.

Is Delhi Nomad-Ready?

Internet: Yes. Delhi has excellent broadband infrastructure. Airtel, ACT, and Hathway all deliver 100–300 Mbps in most residential areas. 4G/5G coverage is comprehensive. Coworking spaces are reliable.

Coworking: Strong. Delhi NCR (including Gurugram and Noida) has WeWork, Smartworks, 91Springboard, CoWrks, and Awfis across multiple locations. South Delhi, Gurugram's Cyber City, and Noida's tech parks all have good options. Day passes β‚Ή600–900 ($7–11), monthly hot desks β‚Ή7,000–15,000 ($84–180).

Transport: Delhi Metro is genuinely excellent β€” one of Asia's best metro systems. Clean, reliable, air-conditioned, covers most of the city. Supplements Ola/Uber well. Traffic is heavy but the metro often makes it irrelevant.

Overall verdict: Nomad-ready with seasonal caveats.

Cost of Living in Delhi

CategoryBudgetMid-RangeComfortable
Accommodation$250–400/month$400–700/month$700–1,500/month
Food$100–150/month$200–350/month$350–600/month
Transport (metro + Uber)$40–60/month$60–100/month$80–150/month
Coworking$84–120/month$120–180/month$180–250/month
Total$500–750$800–1,350$1,350–2,500

Delhi is cheaper than Mumbai and comparable to Bangalore. Accommodation in South Delhi or Gurugram runs slightly higher than Bangalore equivalents; North Delhi and outer areas are cheaper.

Best Neighbourhoods for Remote Workers

South Delhi (Defence Colony, Greater Kailash, Hauz Khas): Best overall for nomads. Excellent cafes (Hauz Khas Village, Shahpur Jat), good restaurant scene, relatively safe at night, manageable traffic with metro access.

Gurugram (Gurgaon): Corporate hub south of Delhi. Best coworking density, modern infrastructure, popular with tech workers. Feels like a separate city β€” less cultural richness, more suburban. Good if your work involves the Gurugram tech corridor.

Saket/Malviya Nagar: Quieter South Delhi residential areas, good value, metro accessible, proximity to malls and coworking.

Connaught Place (CP): Central Delhi, good metro connections, business-friendly, less residential. Better for short-stay work trips than month-long bases.

The Air Quality Issue

Delhi's air quality (AQI) is a real concern, particularly November through January when pollution peaks. AQI regularly exceeds 300–400 (hazardous) in bad periods. This is not a reason to avoid Delhi but it is a reason to:

  • Carry an N95 mask for outdoor use during poor air quality days
  • Invest in a portable air purifier for your accommodation (available on Amazon India, β‚Ή3,000–8,000)
  • Monitor AQI via the AQI India app or IQAir
  • Avoid morning outdoor exercise in November–January

The October through March window has the best air relative to summer, with February and March being the most pleasant overall.

Food Scene

Delhi's food scene rivals any city in Asia. Old Delhi (Chandni Chowk) for street food β€” chaat, kebabs, parathas, and biryani at legendary prices. South Delhi and Hauz Khas Village for sit-down restaurants covering everything from Mughal cuisine to Korean BBQ. The city's Punjabi food is arguably the best in the world β€” butter chicken, dal makhani, and tandoori everything are not tourist approximations here, they are everyday staples done correctly.

Getting Around

Delhi Metro covers most of the city effectively β€” buy a Metro Smart Card for convenience. Ola/Uber supplement the metro for last-mile connectivity. Auto-rickshaws exist but require price negotiation. Avoid driving your own vehicle β€” Delhi traffic and road behaviour is genuinely challenging for newcomers.

Bottom Line

Delhi from October through March is a genuinely excellent remote work base β€” great infrastructure, world-class food, rich culture, and lower prices than Mumbai. Plan around the air quality, stay in South Delhi or Gurugram, and use the metro.

Book accommodation on Booking.com for arrival. Get SafetyWing before you go. Get Airalo data before landing and an Airtel SIM at the airport.
